LOCAL ORGANIZATION NETWORK

Some initial step have been taken to form Local Organization Networks. The first article outlines a workshop held for potential leaders, and the second covers how to obtain a list of potential members for a local group.

REPORT ON LOCAL FARM GROUP LEADERS' WORKSHOP

by Ted Zettel

The day before our annual meeting we took advantage of the presence of Nancy Matheson to hold a one day workshop on starting local farmers groups. Sixteen EFAO members who intend to do just that attended. After Matheson outlined how AERO groups worked and some of their projects, we deal with the concerns local groups might face. Lively discussions on everything from "who should be involved?" to "how to organize a farm tour" followed. We even visited a nearby farm and then evaluated the tour using our own homemade criteria. This was an enthusiastic bunch with loads of good ideas. Several went home with a listing of neighbouring members. You might hear from them soon!

Notes from the workshop are being put together by Ron Strome. If you're interested in obtaining them, contact him at MVCA, 519-335-3557.

WANT TO FIND YOUR EFAO NEIGHBOURS?

by Tony McQuail

Interested in starting a Local Organization Network? Want to have your EFAO neighbours to tea? Thinking of starting a group marketing effort for ecologically grown farm products? One way or another, if your goal is to strengthen our ecological farmers' community, by sharing information and encouragement locally, Steve Hasbury can help you.

Steve produces our address labels with the help of his computer. As such, he can search his list for EFAO members in any given area. If you would like to get a list of the EFAO members in your district, help Steve by provide a list of the towns which are used for mailing addresses in your region. He can then search the list for members near those towns and print off a copy for you. To use this service you must be a member.

Contact Steve Hasbury by phoning 519-396-8024, or by writing him at R.R. #2, Kincardine, On. N2Z 2X4.
